A Book of Endless Possibilities

If I were to have to describe "The Big Little Drum Book" in one word, it would be "possibilities". The book functions almost like a cookbook; the drummer is provided with a certain number of recipes and flavors, and given potential applications for those flavors. The styles and techniques can be mixed and matched with the several pages of rhythms also given to provide endless hours of practice. The book enables you to stylize and customize every style with different changes, additions, and elaborations on the initial grooves. And, like any good cookbook, you'll soon find the ingredients and techniques you learn appearing into your own creations.
I would recommend "The Big Little Drum Book" to any drummers who want to improve their playing, and particularly to those interested in seeing how many styles and feels can come from using one kind of beat. This book is unlike anything else on the market, and a purchase will get you your money's worth 10x over.

Must have!

I've been playing drums for 30 years and teaching professionally for over 15. This book is fantastic for anyone wanting to develop the independence to play any style on the drum kit.
To me it's strength and uniqueness lies in that it's concrete, easy to follow- and short enough to seem easy to get through- but then you dig in and realize there is an incredible amount of coordination to work through. All presented in a musical way. It avoids two pitfalls of other books. One is the book that's too open ended, and infinite, in its suggested practicing options/applications. The other is the spoon-fed book with a hundred pages of almost identical grooves, each one displacing a stroke or accent by a 16th note.

An essential read for every drummer

Kevin is a Berklee grad who knows really his stuff. He is an outstanding drum teacher! This book consolidates the "greatest hits" of his teaching style. The book, like its author, is approachable and full of great ideas. Drummers, young and old alike, will find something new in here to improve their game. Students can go through it between weekly lessons and keep their drumming skills extra sharp, while experienced drummers may find a new groove for their next gig. Highly recommended.
