About the Author
Larry Newman is the Founder and Director of Children's Music Workshop. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education, cum laude degree from Temple University's College of Music, a California teaching credential and a Master of Arts in Music Performance from Eastern Illinois University. Formerly an instrumental music teacher in the Philadelphia School District, Los Angeles Unified School District, and Santa Monica-Malibu Public Schools, Mr. Newman has supervised music programs in more than eighty public and private institutions from the Kindergarten through college levels. His rich diversity of experience includes schools from East L.A. to Malibu and from South Central L.A. to the San Fernando Valley. Larry Newman was the recipient of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' 62nd Annual Los Angeles area Emmy award for Children/Youth Programming. Mr Newman wrote, directed and produced the All Schools Elementary Honor Orchestra shows which have aired nationally and feature students from more than two dozen Children's Music Workshop school programs. This was Mr. Newman's third Emmy win. He also received Emmys in 2009 and 2008 for those honor orchestra broadcasts and was most recently nominated in 2011 for a fourth Emmy for Orchestra Kids 2010. In 2009, Mr. Newman was honored by the Los Angeles City Council at City Hall for his contributions to music education in Los Angeles. He was also featured on CityView's Channel 35 series, "Faces of LA". Mr. Newman received the 2006 Lori Petrick Excellence in Education Award from the Palisades Charter Schools Foundation. The award is underwritten by the Boone Foundation - a philanthropic group whose mission is to support "passionate people who provide excellent programs to youth". Larry Newman was also one of 40 teachers nominated for the 2007 25th Annual BRAVO Award, established in 1982 by the Music Center of Los Angeles County to recognize individuals for innovation and excellence in arts education. Mr. Newman is author of the Recorder Fun Book - one of the top classroom recorder methods in the country. It is used in hundreds of elementary schools throughout the United States. He is also the author of the Violin Fun Book and Beginning Band Fun Books - group method books used in all Children's Music Workshop music programs. Great book for a begginer kid

Easily understood by my kid, the songs are good I think. Great starter for a young musician. I play the guitar so I can help my kid with it, but the book is nice to have for the kid to practice when I'm not around.

Great for Mom too!

We bought this for our son for Christmas to encourage his learning guitar. I received a guitar of my own and adult books to learn guitar. The adult books that I got are not laid out well and don't allow you to build slowly on the chords you learn. The Guitar Fun Book was laid out in an easy to follow format and reminded you of notes you had previously learned earlier when doing a new song. I liked that it had the letter of the notes on the note but occasionally removed it to stretch your memory and strengthen your skill. I worked through the book pretty quickly but go over and over the songs to work on my fingering. Practice makes perfect. I wish this book was longer. It's pretty thin. I will be ordering his other guitar books and hope they teach like this one.

Dash is well suited to discuss the Fourth Amendment guarantee against unreasonable searches and seizures—now a professor at Georgetown University Law Center, he was chief counsel to the Senate committee that investigated Watergate, a scandal in which President Nixon was accused of violating just that guarantee. And he agrees with Nixon's aide John Ehrlichman on one point—that this right "has been considerably eroded" in the last few decades, most recently by the post-9/11 USA Patriot Act. Yet, as Dash points out, such struggles have existed from the time of the Magna Carta. With a lawyer's zeal for complex argument and detail, Dash looks at 18th-century England, for example, where the court convicted a printer and writer named John Wilkes based on the illegal seizure of many of his private papers; by the time a judge overturned the verdict on appeal, Wilkes had died from catching pneumonia in prison. More recently, Dash tells of Dollree Mapp, an African-American woman whose apartment was forcibly searched in 1957 by a police sergeant who said, "We didn't think we needed [a warrant]." Dash traces the erosion of the exclusionary rule (which says illegally obtained evidence must be excluded in court) by the Supreme Court under Warren Burger. The USA Patriot Act, Dash says, "dangerously eliminates" citizens' protection against government surveillance. These issues have been, and will continue to be, debated by civil libertarians. Dash has the authority to bring the discussion to a larger audience, and his ideas will no doubt be much discussed in the media.

About the Author
Susan Guagliumi’s career as an education specialist in the machine knitting industry has spanned more than 30 years and included positions with three knitting machine companies, culminating with the position of Education Director for Studio by White Knitting Machines. During those years she oversaw all dealer education, consumer publications, videos and workshops. Susan's garment designs and technical articles have appeared in a number of hand and machine knitting publications and she has authored five other books. Hand–Manipulated Stitches for Machine Knitters (and the companion DVD), originally published by Taunton Press (Threads Magazine), has been the top selling book on machine knitting for over 20 years. The sequel, More Hand–Manipulated Stitches for Machine Knitters picked up where the first book left off and explored the concept of "bridging" in detail. Susan published two hand knitting pattern books for Creative Publishing International: Twelve Sweaters One Way/Knitting Cuff-to-Cuff and Twelve Sweaters One Way/Knitting Saddle Style. Her most recent book, Handmade for the Garden (Stewart, Tibiori and Chang Publishers) is a departure from knitting and is an craft book for gardeners. Another amazing book by Susan Guagliumi. This colorful book inside and out is unique because it relates hand knitting to machine knitting in a way that hasn't been done before. Susan's understanding of both makes this book a natural followup to the previous 2 books she wrote on Hand Manipulated stitches. This book along with the other two are go to guides for kitting concepts. There are complete sections on many types of knitting , including intarsia, lace, and modular knitting on different gauge machine.

Spectacular, new offering from the Queen of all of Machine Knitting Authors! Brava!

Susan Guagliumi is my favorite knitting machine writer. Clear, concise and outside-of-the-box thinking along with her cheerful, can-do nature make her a star. To continue to write for machine knitting with, sadly, a niche audience, makes her extra special. This book is a particular joy for bridging the gap between hand knitters and machine knitters. Too many hand knitters eschew machine knitting and, frankly, look down their noses. I am a lifelong hand knitter. You hand knitters have no idea with you're missing! It's somewhat apples and oranges, but it is absolutely, positively, not "cheating", the word that keeps being tossed in machine knitters' faces. Who would say a car cheats a horse or a sewing machine cheats hand-sewing?

Let this book be loved for all it offers we machine knitters and bridge a gap to entice hand knitters. Bought one, and immediately bought two more for gifts. Thank you, Susan!
